American Beacon Advisors, a provider of investment advisory services to institutional and retail markets, has added the American Beacon Evercore Small Cap Equity Fund to its family of mutual funds.The fund intends to achieve long-term capital appreciation. Its sub-adviser, Evercore Asset Management, uses a fundamental, bottom-up investment approach along with proprietary valuation models. Since the firm’s founding in 2005, Evercore has focused exclusively on building concentrated portfolios of small- and mid-cap equities. Chris Fasciano, chief investment officer, and Tim Buckley, senior portfolio manager, have primary responsibility for the fund’s day-to-day management.

London – 26 August 2010: The Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) – the global hedge fund industry association – is to engage with U.S. policymakers and supervisors over the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act.

 

AIMA has set out several key areas of focus ahead of September meetings with U.S. policymakers and supervisors regarding the Dodd-Frank Act. These include the registration of hedge fund managers and the reporting of systemically relevant data in the interests of a broader financial stability assessment; how smaller managers may be impacted by the legislation; OTC derivatives; the revised ‘Volcker Rule’; potential tax issues; and the goal of global regulatory consistency. The China Securities Regulatory Commission has authorised BNY Mellon and Western Securities to create a joint venture fund management company in China. The new company, BNY Mellon Western Fund Management Company, will be owned by BNY Mellon (49 per cent) and Western Securities (51 per cent). BNY Mellon Western Fund Management will initially manage domestic Chinese securities in a range of local retail fund products. Over time, the venture will develop further products using the scale and expertise of the broader BNY Mellon group. BNY Mellon Western Fund Management will also focus on leveraging distribution within the Chinese banking and securities sectors, building awareness of the new company in the region.

SS&C Technologies, a provider of financial services software and software-enabled services, has hosted a launch event for its private equity industry solution at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City. The company, its customers, service providers and prospects gathered together to experience SS&C’s software and services designed for the private equity industry. In his keynote address, SS&C chairman and chief executive officer William C. Stone discussed the changing needs of private equity funds. In his remarks, he also highlighted changing regulatory requirements, increased demand for transparency from investors, and how private equity funds are adapting to the new realities to become best-practice businesses.

Private equity is a hot topic for European family offices, with 57 per cent considering increasing their exposure to private equity this year, according to research by LPEQ, the group of European listed private equity companies. The study of 50 family offices across Europe shows they are looking to access private equity through a wide range of strategies and investment vehicles.

The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) has appointed Kate Mitchell as Chairman of the board of directors for the year 2010-2011. Mitchell, who has been on the NVCA board since 2007, is co-founder and managing director of Scale Venture Partners. She replaces Terry McGuire of Polaris Ventures, who completed his one year tenure as Chairman.

The UK is still Europe’s most active market for real estate private equity funds, according to research by Swisslake Capital.  In 2009 more funds were launched in the UK than in all other regions in Europe put together. Real estate private equity fund managers continue to believe that the UK, and particularly London, will witness further yield compression and produce returns above average.
