As you may know in the last two years, currencies have had a significant impact on the performance of clients’ portfolios. So Foreign exchange is high on the agenda of many family office.
At the same time, forex trading is also becoming popular with individual investors as currency is increasingly viewed as an asset class in its own right.
The major reason why so many investors love to trade in forex is because it’s the first big market where strong hand are relativly powerless

The European Commission has proposed a Directive on Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFMs) with the objective to create a comprehensive and effective regulatory and supervisory framework for AIFMs at the European level. The proposed Directive will provide robust and harmonised regulatory standards for all AIFM within scope and will enhance the transparency of the activities of AIFM and the funds they manage towards investors and public authorities. This will enable Member States to improve the macro-prudential oversight of the sector and to take coordinated action as necessary to ensure the proper functioning of financial markets. The proposal will help to overcome gaps and inconsistencies in existing regulatory frameworks at national level and will provide a secure basis for the development of the internal market.
What is your opinion abaut?

While not being here in person, most certainly I am here in the commitment to this conference on Islamic finance, organised by Banca d’Italia, to speak on the subject of Islamic finance from the perspective of a Central Bank. As the international financial markets and the global economy recover from the repercussions of the financial disruptions and dislocations that have occurred in the major financial systems, there have been wide ranging proposals to strengthen the foundations for financial stability, and reviews of the existing institutional arrangements in the international financial system.

I find it amusing that the debacle in Copenhagen which just finished was the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. One of the most famous stories of Andersen’s included the famous quote from the child, “but the emporer has no clothes”. And so it is left to the children to speak the truth.
The truth is, after being in this business since 1975, I came to the realization a few years ago about what a silly business this is (at best) and how malign it is (at its worst). After all, we spend all this time and money shuffling around pieces of paper which have virtually no utility in the real world. We bet (because this market today has little or nothing to do with investment) billions of dollars or euros or whatever chasing the opinions of those who get paid lots of money but are no more credible or reliable than ...
