US law firm Fried Frank has appointed Robert McLaughlin, co-founder of the structured products practice at Katten Muchin Rosenman. Robert McLaughlin has joined law firm Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson as a partner in its asset management and financial services practices in New York. McLaughlin joins from Katten Muchin Rosenman, where he was co-founder of the firm’s structured products practice. His practice concentrates on financial transactions with an emphasis on over-the-counter derivatives, structured products, synthetic investments and credit extensions, as well as derivatives claim trading.
When New York private equity law firm Schwartz celebrates its fifth anniversary later this year, it will do so from new offices at 75 Rockefeller Plaza. Schwartz founder and managing partner Kenneth Schwartz says: “Our new office will bring us much closer to our New York-based private equity clients and will be far more convenient for the many out-of-town visitors to our office.” The law firm, which advises corporations, investment funds and major private investors, is particularly known for its work in Brazil and other emerging markets.
Citi Private Bank has added three private bankers in its New York office. All have moved from US Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, with two joining as managing directors and one as a senior vice-president Heather Kirby and John Hilderbrandt have joined Citi Private Bank in New York as managing directors and Charles Walker joins as senior vice-president. All three report to Leslie Bains, interim regional executive for the Metro New York area. Kirby joins from US Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management where she was a managing director in New York. Kirby joined US Trust in 2007 from HSBC, where she was a managing director and private banker. Hilderbrandt was also formerly at US Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management, where he was a managing director in New York. Before joining US Trust in 2000, he was a vice-president and relationship manager with First Union Bank in Washington, DC. Prior to this, he spent nine years with Citibank in Washington.
NEW YORK CITY-David Arena (pictured), who has led the New York region at Grubb & Ellis since 2006, has moved over to JPMorgan Chase. Arena will become co-head of JPMorgan’s corporate real estate team along with Kim Bertin. A spokeswoman for Grubb & Ellis confirms JPMorgan’s Monday afternoon announcement. She tells that Arena’s last day with Grubb has not been set. Joseph Swingle, who succeeded Arena as executive managing director of the New York office, says in a statement, “We’re grateful for David’s years of service with us and wish him the best – he’s going from one great company to another.”
Rockfleet Financial Services has opened its office in Manhattan. The company will offer investment banking, advisory, securities origination, brokerage, dealer and related services across the US.
Ladenburg Thalmann has nominates Bruce Silver as northeast regional sales manager. Silver will be based in New York, at the newly reopened office for private clients at 369 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan.
